I had a presentation of my research topic entitled “Sensing the world through social geo contents”, and got some good suggestions from the audiences. In the night discussion, good wines and some sports (table tennis and a pool game) supported us.

I want to keep this good human relationship forever.

I start working in DFKI as a visiting researcher from this February. DFKI is one of the most active research institute in Germany. They have several branches, and I stay DFKI in Kaiserslautern of which main topic is knowledge management.

What I first impressed here is its cold weather. From the first day we arrived here, it keeps under 0 degree. I and my family have never experienced such a cold weather.

Since Dr. Marcus who have studied in Japan helps us from the first contact, we can easily start our new life in a new country. Now we can’t understand any German words, but we will go to a language school for learning.
Of course, I want to improve my English skills.

From the 1st week, I had a presentation for introducing myself and my previous research results. It was hard for me to have a discussion over 90 mins with English. But, my effort goes well and some research topics that can collaborate with them were turned out.

In the 2nd week, I already have several discussion with several researchers, and found some interesting topics I want to join.

As a private, I already have a home party in my flat, and invited Dr. Marcus and his wife, and enjoyed cooking the German menu.

In addition, I already tried to drive a car here. Since most of the car is a manual car with left handle, I took a time to recall how to control the gears and clutch.

All the experience here will be my treasure!

I finished staying France on 16th, Jan. 2012. The time I stayed in France is just 75 days. It is a little bit short. So, I couldn’t get a obvious result. I got many experiences about the sensor network as well as about the culture of France. Also I got a priceless human network.

Now I moved to Kaiserslautern, Germany. And started a new life with my family.

This report is described about the business trip to KES2011 held at Kaiserslautern in Germany from Sep. 12 to 14.

Kaiserslautern is a small but active city located in the west side of Germany, in which DFKI exits. DFKI is a one of the largest research institute in Germany, and I will stay 1 year from next February. Since Prof. Andreas who is the Scientific Director of DFKI as well as my future boss works as the chair of this conference, I submitted my paper for having a presentation and for going to DFKI & Kaiserslautern.

Fortunately, my paper was accepted to the invited session called “Document analysis & Knowledge science”, which is promoted by Prof. Uchida & Prof.Kise & Dr.Marcus. The title of presentation is “Spatial Statistics with Three-tier Breadth First Search for Analyzing Social Geocontents”, that proposes how to analyze the log of Twitter for finding the location-dependency of inputted words.

On the first day, the conference starts by a keynote speech of Keiji Yamada. And I had my presentation in the evening. Our session attracted most attendees (it got “best session award”), and could have a good discussion with the questioners.

Before the conference, I thought that only Prof. Uchida and his students, and Prof. Mine are known persons. But I was surprised that many acquaintances were here. Since KES is not a major conference for me, I didn’t understand why.

Through our stay in Kaiserslautern, Prof. Andreas and Dr. Marcus so entertained us unbelievably．From the arrival to the end of the stay, they took us to the special restaurants and introduced many things; ex, about the city, about beers, about wines and about the history. They are so kind and I was so fun with them.

I’m looking forward to be back here on next February!!!
